Outstanding Industrial Technologist - 2003

Shaw E & I is an international full service construction and engineering firm with over 6000 employees engaged in operations requiring high conformance to safety and health standards. Troy Allen is responsible for inculcating the methodology and necessity for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment in the Shaw's workforce. Through his leadership and motivation for excellence, in the last year his company experienced a 48% reduction in workplace injuries and had a 75% reduction in loss time. This resulted in increased profitability that allowed Shaw to improve employee compensation while simultaneously enhancing the company's competitive posture.

Mr. Allen graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1993 with a BS in Industrial Technology, after his matriculation as a non-traditional student while I. T. Group as a Field Technician. Upon graduation, he continued employment with I. T. Group, holding increasingly responsible positions in Environmental Health and Safety. He later joined the construction firm, United Crafts, Inc., as Coordinator of EH&S and was promoted within a year to Manager of EH&S. Upon United Crafts acquisition by the Shaw Group, he was promoted to Corporate Compliance Manager. As the company grew by subsequent acquisitions, he was appointed to his present position as Director of Health and Safety of the Shaw Group.

Troy Allen, by his leadership and effective motivation, has a major impact upon maintaining the company's competitive position in an industry highly cost sensitive to the workplace health and safety environment.
