Outstanding Industrial Technologist - 2002

As General Manager of Sandvik Coromant Company, W. Brian Wilson is responsible for planning and optimizing Sandvik’s market share and profitability of engineered products. Specifically, he is responsible for the marketing, quotation, proposal design and performance of all locally-produced and externally-sourced engineered tooling products.

Mr. Wilson was awarded his BS in Industrial Technology n 1989 from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and he began his career at Sandvik in 1991 as a service representative. He was rapidly promoted, during 1996 he received his 3rd promotion to Productivity Team Manager. He developed a team, which had direct impact on the sales and market share growth of Sandvik’s standard indexing carbide inserts, the most profitable items in their line. Mr. Wilson became the Business Unit Manager of Michigan and Indiana in 1998 and became responsible for profit and loss, sales and market share growth, customer service, and employee development. Mr. Wilson led his sales team to become Sandvik’s #1 business unit in the United States. In 2001 he was promoted to his current position of General Manager.

His progress in Sandvik Coromant is strongly due to his proven ability to successfully resolve challenges. Over the course of his career, he has traveled to the parent company in Sweden on numerous occasions to represent the U.S. market for specific projects and programs. He has in two recent positions developed new groups, processes, or functions that have resulted in additional profitability and market share for the company.
