The 41st Annual Conference Highlights

The 41st Annual Conference was held in Nashville, TN on November 18 - 22, 2008. There were 560 attendees, 21 exhibitors, over 60 sponsor schools and companies and 174 presentations scheduled. There were 22 presentations in the EECT track and another 4 in the EECT - Energy Issues track. The EECT would like to thank all those who worked hard to make the conference a success.

2008 EECT Division Meeting - New Officers

The 2008 Conference brought changes to several officer positions. Dr. Philip Weinsier became president of the EECT and presided over the EECT division meeting on Friday morning of the 2008 Convention. The discussion included progress with respect to the 2008 goals, development of the 2009 goals, and sub-committee assignments. The EECT would like to thank Dr. John Wright for two excellent years of service as president of the EECT. Dr. Ravindra Thamma is now the president-elect and will begin serving as president at the 2010 annual conference.

Dr. Steve Hsiung Honored with first EECT Exemplary Service Award

Dr. Steve Hsiung's many contributions to the EECT were recognized at the 2008 Conference as he was the first recipient of the new EECT Exemplary Service Award. The award was established in 2008 by the EECT and is presented on occation to individuals deemed by the EECT President to have made exemplary contributions to the division. Recipients receive a personalized award plaque at the ATMAE Annual Conference. Dr. Hsiung is a past president of the EECT and has served the division in a myriad of ways for many years. Congratulations, and thank you for your service, Dr. Hsiung!

Congratulations to Northern Iowa - Winners of EECT Electrical/Control Methodology Award

The University of Northern Iowa won the EECT Best Electrical/Control Methodology Award at the 2008 Student Division Robotics Contest. Evaluation criteria included the use of sophisticated electrical/control components, innovative design, soundness of design methodology, craftsmanship and documentation. The EECT congratulates the Northern Iowa team on their achievement.

ATMAE Unveiled at Conference

During the Thursday luncheon of the 2008 Conference, the proposed change in the name of the Association from NAIT to ATMAE (The Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering) was announced, accompanied by proposed changes in the vision and mission statements of the Association. In January, the membership overwhelmingly voted to approve the changes. An animation of the rollout can be viewed by clicking here.

PIC Microcontroller Workshop a Success

A 4-hour workshop on the newly-designed PIC Microcontroller Training System was held on Friday morning of the 41st Annual Conference. The workshop presented a packaged PIC microcontroller training course that is especially designed for distance learning (but can be used in a traditional setting). Participants received a circuit board with the PIC microcontroller, programming software, sample code and a full curriculum package. There were seventeen participants and the feedback from the workshop was extremely positive. The EECT would like to thank Dr. Steve Hsiung from Old Dominion University and Dr. Philip Weinsier from Bowling Green State University - Firelands for conducting this workshop. 

Looking Towards Louisville in 2009

The 2009 ATMAE Annual Conference will be held in Louisville, KY, November 10 - 14, 2009. The conference theme is "Emerging and Green Technologies for Today's Economic Challenges". Although the 2009 conference may seem to be a long way off, there are already important matters regarding the conference, especially with the Call for Presentations just around the corner! 2009 Call For Presentations Deadline: February 6

The due date for presentation proposals for the 2009 Annual Conference is February 6, 2009. The 2009 ATMAE Annual Conference page (click here) contains links to the official Call for Presentations in pdf format, proposal guidelines, a sample proposal, and more presentation information.

Ideas Needed for 2009 EECT Conference Workshop

Ideas are needed for the 2009 EECT Conference Workshop. If you have ideas and/or are willing to conduct or assist with a workshop, please contact EECT president Dr. Philip Weinsier at philipw@bgsu.edu.

2009 Conference Reviewers Needed

Reviewers are needed for both the EECT presentation proposals and Conference Proceedings Papers. The reviewing of presentation proposals will take place March 17 - April 6, 2009. The reviewing of Conference Proceedings Papers will take place July 20 - August 24, 2009. Reviewers not submitting a proposal are preferred. Please contact Dr. Philip Weinsier (philipw@bgsu.edu) if you would like to volunteer to be a reviewer.

 

Collaborative Research Page

In order to facilitate collaboration between EECT members who have similar research interests, the EECT web site now features a Collaborative Research page listing the interests and contact info of some of its members. Please visit the page (fourth button down on the left navigation bar), and then email the EECT webmaster to have your name and research interests added to the list.

The EECT List Serve provides a safe and convenient way for our members to communicate on a continuing basis.

 

This site contains information relevant to the members of the EECT Division of ATMAE, including upcoming workshops, reports on recent activities, and resources for faculty and industry members.
